WA F1000 Round 4

Arise Racing

After a quick three week turn-around from Round 3, the Arise Racing drivers lined up for the second race meeting in July. It was great to have Arise Racing coaches Aidan Read and Michael Epple back in the Formula 1000 field ready to mix it up with the regulars! This was a meeting with a twist, with the starting positions in Race 2 being decided by the reverse of the top six drivers in qualifying. Add to that two of the Arise Racing Radicals lining up on the starting grid with returning seasoned driver Sam Dicker and Chris Ratty, it was bound to be exciting!

Qualifying was tight with Henry Lake claiming his maiden pole position by one tenth of a second. He was followed by Aaron Love and Aidan Read. The top three for the second race would then be made up of Adam Lisle, Jordan Oon and Michael Epple, who qualified sixth, fifth and fourth respectively. Further back Tayla Dicker was just in front of her brother Sam in the Radical, followed by Mike Folwell and Chris Ratty in the second Radical.

Race 1 saw Henry Lake convert his pole position into his maiden race win but not without a fight from Aaron Love. The pair traded places throughout the race, letting Adam Lisle almost draft up into the battle for the lead, although he would have to settle for third position in the end. Aidan Read was close behind followed by Tayla, Michael Epple, Jordan and Mike Folwell. Chris Ratty and Sam Dicker had a great race, with Chris overtaking Sam into turn 1 to hold on for the win in the Radical class.

Race 2 was hectic from the start, with Adam taking the lead from pole position in front of Jordan. Michael Epple grabbed third, but quickly passed Jordan to move up to second by the end of the first lap. By this time Adam had pulled a sizeable lead on the field, and was concentrating on consolidating the gap. Both Aaron and Aidan were able to pass Jordan on the second lap, moving themselves in a position to challenge for the podium positions. Unfortunately Jordan spun his car midway through turn 4, getting beached in the sand. This brought out a safety car for 3 laps to tightening up the field. In a one lap dash for the line, Adam was able to hold on for the win followed by Aaron in second, and Michael Epple in third place.

Starting positions for the final race were decided by the total points tally for the first two races. Aaron held on to first position from the start and was able to build a handy gap to Aidan in second place. Adam managed to round out the podium, holding off the fast finishing Henry Lake. Tayla was able to get the best of Michael Epple in a close battle throughout the race.

Overall it was Aaron Love who again came out on top, but had the competition brought to him and had to fight in every race. Adam took second place honours and it was Henry in third. Sam Dicker came home first out of the two Radicals, and it was great to see the familiar face of Chris Ratty around the Arise Racing garages again, shaking the cobwebs off and building for 2019.
