April 16th came around quite quickly after a very successful round 1 of the WA F1000 series.
One absentee was round 1 winner Jordan Love. Jordan had prior commitments to race the Australian Formula 4 championship at Phillip Island. He had a very strong performance there, with a round win and taking the overall series points lead, showing the true platform F1000 provides for drivers building and honing their racing skills.
In qualifying Adam Lisle came out firing, taking pole position from long time open wheel and tarmac rally driver Peter Major. Arise junior driver Alex Barboutis made it an Arise Racing top 3 lock out. BD Soutar-Dawson was in 6th after a mechanical issue limited him to one lap. Mike Folwell took 7th place, while Arise rookie Chris Ratty showed his continued improvement with a 9th position.
Race 1 saw Adam shoot off the start in lap one while the pack got into battle. BD took a daring move around the outside of turn one moving to 4th in front of Pete and Rob Appleyard. Ben Riley and Alex fought for 2nd and 3rd place allowing BD to pounce and move into 2nd, before a mechanical issue caused a DNF. Mike Folwell was having a good dice with Jez Hammond for 7th position. Peter Major was the next to take advantage of the battle between Ben Riley and Alex and recovered back to finish 2nd behind Adam and in front of Ben who was closely followed by Alex.
Race 2 again saw Adam lead the pack from start to finish. A tight battle was fought between Ben, Peter and Alex all the way to the end. Peter brought it home in 3rd position in front of Alex. Mike faught hard again with Jez hammond crossing the line only 0.6 of a second apart in 8th and Chris following them home in 9th.
Race 3 Was quite a tight bit of racing. Adam proved victorious, taking 3 from 3 for the day. But this time it was young Alex who emerged from the fray closely behind Adam in 2nd with Peter being relegated back to 4th. Mike again continued his battle with Jez and finished in a very close 8th position with Chris pushing him all the way to the line in 9th. All of the drivers were quick to return to their pits and jump out of their cars as they could smell the Arise BBQ already cooking, to reward everyone’s hard work for the day.
Bring on round 3.
